Game Summary: Treating fans to a 43-20 victory(Dallas Cowboys)
For Dallas Cowboys fans, Halloween arrived early thanks to the Los Angeles Rams' terrifying experience at AT&T Stadium.
With their 43–20 victory, the Cowboys extended their home winning streak to 11 games, the longest in the NFL at the moment. All three phases of the game featured contributions. With a 133.7 quarterback rating and 304 yards and four touchdowns on 80.6 percent of his passes, Dak Prescott led the way. He had not had at least four scoring tosses in a game since the 2021 season, making it his eighth career total.
The Cowboys defense was equally, if not more, skilled than their attack. Throughout the day, Matthew Stafford, the quarterback for the Rams, was plagued by the unit; he completed just 59.1% of his pass attempts for 162 yards and a 78.2 rating. In addition to one interception and five pass breakups, the group finished with two sacks, five quarterback hicks, and six tackles for loss.
Together, the Cowboys won total yards (387 to 280) and time of possession (35:28 to 24:32) on route to an almost straightforward victory.
The initial quarter
The Rams' improper contact penalty, which also preserved the drive on a third-and-11, resulted in Prescott getting sacked on his first three drop-backs of the game. Nevertheless, the Cowboys were able to correct course and score early. After that, the quarterback completed six of his next seven passes to close the series, the final one being a nice down the seam completion to tight end Jake Ferguson for an eighteen-yard touchdown.
But the Dallas defense allowed the visitors to convert a third-and-11 in order to get to the Cowboys' 15-yard line, and Los Angeles responded with three points of their own. However, they would only manage a 33-yard field goal, which was their maximum outcome.
33 yards, what? Kindly. The Cowboys' nine-play drive was completed off by a 58-yard field goal by rookie Brandon Aubrey, which was also the longest of his brief career.
However, Dallas scored again before the first fifteen minutes had passed, taking a 17-3 lead at the halfway point. The next time the Rams saw the ball, cornerback DaRon Bland cut out a pass from Stafford meant for Cooper Kupp and ran thirty yards without getting hit to pay soil. This was Bland's third pick-six of the 2023 season and his ninth interception overall in his first two seasons, which leads the NFL in both categories.
The second quarter
Therefore, why not employ specialized teams? Initially, Sam Williams breached the line during the Rams' punt from their own 12-yard line, blocking the attempted boot and causing the ball to bounce out of the end zone for a safety.
KaVontae Turpin promptly returned the subsequent punt 63 yards to the Los Angeles 13-yard line. The game was well in hand when, two plays later, Prescott hit Lamb with a pass in the end zone, giving the Eagles a 26-3 advantage.
Regretfully, nothing would be flawless. The Cowboys were moving again, partly because of two completions to Ferguson for twenty-four yards and one each to Lamb and Turpin for thirteen and twenty-one yards. However, the threat was averted when a Prescott pass at the line of scrimmage was tipped by tight end Sean McKeon twice before falling into the clutches of safety Jordan Fuller on first-and-goal at the Rams' 9-yard line.
Fortunately, there would be no similar misfortune on the subsequent drive. The Cowboys offense took over at their own 37-yard line and needed only five plays to cross the goal line. Prescott found Lamb in the end zone after rolling out of the pocket to his right.
Before halftime, though, the Rams would score again. They would cover 75 yards in 12 plays with 2:27 left in the second quarter, and their first score of the contest came from running back Royce Freeman who powered up the middle from a 1-yard out. After Los Angeles' two-point conversion attempt was unsuccessful, the Cowboys led 33-10 at the half.
Quarter Three
Los Angeles regained possession of the ball to begin the second half and continued where it left off, requiring only seven plays to cover the last 75 yards to the goal. Ben Skowronek ran for the 20-yard touchdown ball from Stafford to cap up the series after he completed a 32-yard screen throw to Darrell Robinson for the huge gain.
Relentlessly, Aubrey's 27-yard field goal helped the Cowboys gradually extend their lead. It's possible that the drive's duration of 17 plays and 9:57 of clock saved the defense going into the fourth quarter.
Quarter Four
The defense also performed its duty. The Rams were facing a fourth-and-two situation when the Cowboys stopped them, giving the offense possession at the Dallas 46-yard line. Stafford had injured his thumb, so Brett Rypien took over at quarterback. With a quick ball from Prescott to Brandin Cooks of 25 yards for the touchdown, the Cowboys were back in the end zone.
Playing out the clock was the only thing left to do. Turpin enthralled the audience with what appeared to be an 88-yard punt return to the goal line, but a holding call on Nahshon Wright nullified the touchdown.
With Prescott and a few other club starters out for the day, Cooper Rush entered the game to take over at quarterback.
The Rams would add a pointless 47-yard field goal to cap out the scoring in between a string of punts from both teams, thus bringing the game to a merciful conclusion.
